Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Sunday appealed to judges to stop media from publishing or airing their remarks during hearing of a case. This will remove the impression of trial of any specific party, he added.
Addressing a seminar on “Why democracy is obligatory for Pakistan? “ organised by the Pakistan Journalist Forum (PJF) here, Kaira said tickers on news channels about judges’ remarks could damage the campaign of political parties.
Only the court decisions should be published, he added.
Kaira said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) respected the judiciary and it had always accepted verdicts even if those were against the party like the judicial murder of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed or removal of its prime minister.
He said the PPP would support the move if the media persons and the Election Commission prepare a code of conduct for covering elections.
The Information Minister said the caretaker set-up would be established under the constitutional process. No one can give final names or date for the set-up, which will be formed on its time, he added.
He said initially consensus was needed between the leaders of House and Opposition, but opposition leader Ch Nisar had refused to sit with the Prime Minister. However, he hoped that the caretaker set-up would be formed with consensus.
