Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday directed the Ministry of Water and Power to take every measure to minimize the demand and supply gap of electricity and ensure minimum inconvenience to the consumers.
He was presiding over a high-level meeting to review the energy situation in the country at the PM House here.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Water and Power, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar Minister for Finance, Saleem H Mandviwala, Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum, Dr Asim Hussain and senior officials of the Ministry of Water and Power.
The meeting was informed that the electricity breakdown in the country Sunday night was due to a technical fault and that electricity has been restored in most parts of the country and would be restored in the rest of the country before this evening.
The Prime Minister was also informed that as directed by him an Inquiry Committee has been constituted with Member (Power) WAPDA as its Convener to ascertain the reasons behind the breakdown and fix responsibility. The Committee will submit its findings alongwith recommendations within seven days.
The Prime Minister said that no one would be spared and severe action will be taken against any one found negligent of his duties or in any way found responsible for having failed in his duties leading to breakdown of the electricity in the country.
