Govt accords top priority to roads connectivity projects: President

President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday said that present democratic government accorded top priority to the roads connectivity projects and despite daunting challenges and difficult economic situation utilized all available resources to providing a decent travelling and road facilities to the people of the country.

The President said this while addressing the gathering here after inauguration of recently completed Rasheedabad flyover and ground-breaking of a bridge over river Ravi at Syedwala.

The inaugural ceremony was attended among others by former Prime MinisterSyed Yusuf Raza Gilani, federal ministers, parliamentarians, members of the civil society and other high officials besides notables of the area.

Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the President while inaugurating the two important connectivity projects of vital economic importance said that these projects would enhance road connectivity in South Punjab on one hand and further promoting Socio-economic, commercial and agricultural development of the area on the other.

The President said that the communication projects would createample employment opportunities for people of the area and would improve the life standards of the common people, hence ushering a new era of progress and prosperity in South Punjab.

The President said that present democratic government during its five-year tenure focused on development of South Punjab and worked earnestly for bringing the people of the area into the mainstream of national life.

Commenting on government’s initiatives for development of South Punjab, thePresident said that under development package for South Punjab various development projects have been completed and many are in the pipeline.

The President said that government was well aware of the deprivations of the people of South Punjab and that’s why it was working earnestly for creation of separate province in Punjab for the people of South Punjab.

The constitution of a Commission manifested sincerity of the presentgovernment to respect the legitimate aspirations of the people of South Punjab and to address their genuine grievances, the President said and added that Parliamentary Commission on Creation of New Provinces in Punjab has already submitted its report.

The Spokesperson said that the President called upon all the political forces to come forward and support the government drive for creation of Janoobi Punjab a separate province so as to bring the people of south Punjab into the mainstream of national life and remove their sense of deprivation.
